All welcome!

Why are people attracted to music that makes them feel sad, and sometimes even seem to enjoy it? In an ex-ploratory online study (n=595), subjects completed questionnaires regarding their attraction to sad music, as well as personality dimensions (coping strategies, empathy, self-efficacy etc.) that were expected to play a role in the enjoyment of sad music. Special attention was paid to motivational and situational factors, i.e. which ex-pectations and goals people have when engaging with sad music. Results revealed a three-factor-structure regarding both motivations and situations and are integrated in a preliminary „motivational model of sad music“.
