Theses and dissertations

Systematic Musicology is growing fast and there are many diverse opportunities for original research. To find out about current research trends, check out the programs of recent conferences in areas such as music psychology, music cognition, music and neurosciences, music philosophy, or music information retrieval. See also recent issues of the journals in which centre members publish their work, such as Music Perception, Jahrbuch Musikpsychologie, Psychology of Music, Musicae Scientiae, Music and Science, and the centre's own Journal of Interdisciplinary Music Studies.

Theses (at bachelor's and master's levels) and  and dissertations (doctoral) are supervised by Richard Parncutt, Annemarie Seither-Preisler, Bernd Brabec de Mori, and Andrea Schiavio (current in 2021). We discuss our research projects in a weekly research seminar (Konversatorium). All students at all levels are welcome.

The research of students in our centre is soundly based on general principles of good research in sciences and humanities, focusing on social sciences. Each of the centre's researchers specializes in and teaches different aspects of research methods, including the design of empirical studies, quantitative data analysis, qualititative research methods, and the structure of empirical research papers.
